            Perennial (1-3 years) undershrub, 50-20 cm. high. Stem branched, angular, light green to light brown. Leaves: simple, alternate, ovate, alternate at the base, glossy green, 3-5 cm. wide, 5-8 cm. long. Flowers: 2-3, axillary, corolla rotate, with or light green or purple, 5 lobate. Fruit: ovoid or oblong, obtuse, 0.3-0.5 cm wide, 2-3 cm. long Seeds: reniform, compressed, 2-3 mm. in diameter, yellow or red (Kanchana Diwiset, et al., 1999, p. 163)

The fruit boosts appetite, stimulates passing of wind, treatment for ringworm, swelling wounds, aches and pain, improves blood circulation and prevents blood clots. It also improves breathing system and digests phlegm in the lungs, relieves pneumonia, it is an anti-oxidant, and it is antibacterial, activates metabolism process, reduces calories, overweight, lowers triglycerides and cholesterol (Phak Phuen Ban Ahan Phuen Mueang, 2007, p. 63)
