            Sweet basil, common basil
 
            Bai ho ra pha, ho ra pha thai, im khim khao, ho kuai suai, ho wo shu (Karen-Mae Hong Son).
 
            Perennial shrub, erect, 50-150 cm. high, stalk quadrangular, branched, purplish green. Leaves oblong, smooth rim or slightly serrate, 1-3.5 cm. wide, 2-6 cm. long, dark green, petiole 0.7-2 cm. long. Inflorescence spikes, at the top, corella flowers with 5 petals, white or slightly reddish, 9 mm. long. Fruit brown, 4 seeds, ovate, 2 mm. long.
 
        
            Carbohydrates, fiber, protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, Vitamins A, B1, B2 and C, volatile oil, beta-Carotene. (Phak Phuen Ban Ahan Phuen Mueang, 2005, p. 87)
        
Anti-cancer, controls infection, relieves bronchitis. Leaf, fruit and roots are used in treating gastritis, indigestion, a cold, headaches, dysentery, nausea and vomiting.
