Chiang Mai University had the opportunity to receive the Thai Governments State Visitors, H. E. Ferdinand E. Marcos and his wife Madam Marcos from the Republic of the Philippines on January 18, 1968. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bunyaret Khamthong and Ajan Sumana Khamthong together with the executives of Chiang Mai University came to welcome them and hosted a reception for them.
H.E. Ferdinand E. Marcos gave a speech and the following is a summary of it.
The president was very delighted to visit Chiang Mai University and receive a very warm welcome. H. E. was very interested in education development in particular the quality of the education. On this occasion, he felt that Chiang Mai University would be able to advance satisfactorily. The president described the education policy with H. E. the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and agreed that education development is a vital integral part that should go hand in hand with other aspects of development. Educational economics is a long term investment in order to get intellectuals to devote themselves to the countrys progress. And education involves many disciplines and what the various faculties of Chiang Mai University had been doing both in teaching and research seemed to match well with the principle of educational development. Therefore, he would like to congratulate the University for what they had done and he was sure that it would advance further.
