The residence was originally on Huay Kaew Road near the Central Kad Suan Kaew Department Store. It was torn down and replaced by the Huay Kaew Apartment buildings. The wood from the residence was offered to a temple in San Kamphaeng.
Taking down royal residences or palaces and using the material to build other buildings in temples has been a tradition since the ancient days. Phrachao Inthavichayanon the 7th ruler of Chiang Mai (1873-1896) had the palace or Ho Kham or Prachao Mahotara pratet, the 5th ruler of Chiang Mai (1847-1854) torn down and built into the Vihara of Wat Phan Tao.
Khum Rin Kaew was Chao Dararasamis residence. It was a European style two story building that was considered very stylish at the time. She resided here during the last part of her life until she passed away.
