The school building used to be the residence of Chao Ratsamphanthawong, Chao La and other family members. Chao La was the younger sister of the tenth ruler of Lamphun. The building was constructed in 1912. It was sold to a Chinese association and became a Chinese language school during the period before WWII and was closed when Marshall P. Pibulsonggram became Prime Minister. Later, it was rented to a private investor to become Mongkhon Witthaya School. When the school was moved to a new place, the old building was rented to the Lamphun Municipality to be used as a city community museum. The building is behind the Lamphun National Museum at the center of Lamphun.
