The weir across the Mae Kuang River is the outcome of cooperation of community members who are stakeholders as they benefit from irrigating water into their paddy fields. Otherwise they would have to pay in cash or hire someone to work for them to be eligible to use the water. A weir construction takes a lot of wooden stakes to be hammered into the ground with a special kind of hammer called khon nawaen. After that, large rice straw bundles are packed in between the stakes to fill up the holes and gaps before being covered with a large amount of sand. |
