Bridge crossing the Mae Kok River, Chiang Rai, 1948

The bridge crossing the Mae Kok River, 2008. The bridge was built to connect the city of Chiang Rai with Mae Chan District, Mae Sai District, Chiang Saen District and Chiang Khong District, etc. It used to be called “Khua Lek” (steel bridge) until 1969 when it was torn down and replaced with a concrete one. It is now next to the Princess Mother’s Park which is on its left on the city side at the crossing point to Mae Chan District. On its right is a restaurant: the “Rim Nam Restaurant”. A new bridge had been built (on the left) parallel to the original one in order to expand the traffic lane for convenience purposes.
