The irrigation canal near the Suthep Bridge, 2008. Photo taken in fornt of the Center for the Promotion of Arts and Culture, Chiang Mai University. The road ends at the irrigation canal-Suthep Road intersection called today the Suthep Bridge. The area in the upper left corner of the old picture is now the Ton Payom Market. To the right is a residential area or the Daen Tawan Nuea Village. The left corner is now part of the Faculty of Agriculture, Chiang Mai University. The two story Colonial Style building in the old picture was Mr. Arther Lionel Queripel’s home built around 1922 by Mong Tan, an architect and contractor. In 1963 It was expropriated by the Chiang Mai University and later improved to use as the Social Research Center before being transfered to the Center for the Promotion of Arts and Culture since 1994 when the research center moved its office.
