The Buddha Sathan Chiang Mai, 2008. This place is the former site of Burmese temple named Wat Uppakhut. The Buddha Sathan was built after a social phenomenon when Panyananda, a renowned monk gave a Dharma speech in 1949. A huge number of Buddhists in Chiang Mai came to listen and agreed that there should be a permanent place for the monk to come and give speeches and the place could be used for other religious events. The Buddha Sathan construction was completed in 1958. |
