Miss Suchila Sisombun or Siburi while being crowned Miss Thailand, 1954, and receiving a trophy; she is the first person from Lamphun who won the title of Miss Thailand.
She entered the contest of Miss Thin Thai Ngam in 1953 and became the first runner up after Miss Phanni Phakdi who was selected Miss Thin Thai Ngam. The following year, Miss Suchila was persuaded by Ms. Uayphon Ptttaphont to compete for Miss Thailand. She was sponsored by the Government Savings Bank, Region 6 Branch. During her two-months preparation, she had to stay at Ms. UayPhons house and was assigned to her mentor, Ms. Sisamon Atthakraiwanwathi, a former Miss Thailand runner up, who, based on her experience, advised Miss Suchila about walking, smiling, losing weight and physical training to maintain her good looks.
Due to her being fit and firm plus her sweet attractive face and nice complexion as a northern Thai young woman as well as her good figure along with her elaborately designed and sewn clothing by the excellent seamstress of the era, Khunying Churai Lue-amrung, Yosawadi Bunlong and Sapan Thianprasit plus the best hairdressers and make up artist for Chueachan Beauty Salon at Bonk Khunphrom, Miss Suchila was expected to win from the first round
Miss Suchila recounts the time that it was held in December 8-18 at Lumphini Park in Bangkok. The tickets for each night ranged from 5, 10, and 20 to 100 Baht. The Chief Judge of the pageant was Phra Monunwethwimonnat, the Chairperson of the Supreme Court. And as the media anticipated, Mr. Kalan Amattayaakun, the MC, announced that the 13th Miss Thailand of 1954 was Suchila Sisombun and the four runners up were Chongdi Wisetrit, Uthaiwan Thepchinda, Rabiap Achanayothin and Wassana Rotsiri.
Phraya Ramratchaphakdi invited Than Puying La-iat Phibunsonggram to crown her and present her with a silver boWF, a diamond ring, a Singer sewing machine, a belt made of an alloy of gold, silver and copper, a gold necklace weighing 4 baht (60.98 gm., 304.9 carats) and a cash prize of 20,000 Baht.
