Princess Khaekkaeo

            Princess Khaekkeao Na Lamphun (former name Khaekkaeoma) was the daughter of Chao Burirat (Chao Noi Phromthep) and Chao Suna. The princess was born on July 2, 1892 on the 8th waxing moon of the ninth lunar month, the Year of the Dragon at the Royal Residence at Changsi Gate, Ropmueang Nok Road, Lamphun Province. She had 6 siblings:
            1. Chao Ying Kahkaeo Na Lamphun (Died at 28)
            2. Chao Singkham Na Lamphun (Died prematurely)
            3. Chao Mueangkham Na Lamphun (Also died at 28)
            4. Chao Mueangdi Na Lamphun (Also died prematurely)
            5. Chao Sinkaeo Na Lamphun (Died prematurely)
            6. Chao Ying Khaekkaeo Na Lamphun
            At the age of 18 in 1910, Princess Khaekaeo married Chao Chakkahkhachonsak, the 10th ruler of Nakhon Lamphun, when he was Chao Burirat of Nakhon Lamphun. They had two children as follows:
            1. Chao Worathat Na Lamphun
            2. Chao Ratchadet Na Lamphun (Died prematurely)
            There were one more son and one more daughter but they died only a few days after birth before they were even named.
Princess Khaekaeo and Major General Chao Luang Chakkahkhachonsak co-hosted the casting of 40 Buddha images and building one monks’ cell at Wat Phra That Haripunchai. Later the princess moved back to be with her parents and began running a business until she became wealthy.
            Princess Khaekkaeo was a very determined person and was grateful to her parents. She was also kind and compassionate. She always helped the needy and made merit to benefit others.
            Regarding religion, she also began to observe the precepts and meditated at the temple every Sabbath day, starting at Wat Mahawan on the 8th waxing moon of the 11th lunar month until in the later years of her life. She strictly prayed and meditated every morning and every night and gave alms offering to the monks in the morning and again at lunchtime with four tiffin carriers daily at Wat Phra That Haripunchai and Wat Mahawan.
            Regarding education, she was well aware of its value and benefits. So, she supported her son, Chao Worathat Na Lamphun, to study at Thammasat University and sent Chao Worathewi and Chao wirathat Na Lamphun to study abroad after Chao Worathat died in 1915. The former received an MBA from Oregon State University, USA and the latter had a certificate in Mechanics from Technikum Institute in Germany and underwent a year’s training in England.
            Regarding other public contributions, Princess Khaekkeao devoted some time to public benefits/work. She was a life-time member of the Red Cross Society. She voluntarily cooperated with several government agencies and sent money as well as other items to relieve the people in disaster stricken areas, including contributing to the construction of the district meeting hall and the city wall restoration.
            Throughout her life, Princess Khaekkeo was willingly dependable to all her relatives and other people in every way possible with. Countless numbers of people came under her patronage. The Princess had indeed accumulated lots of good deeds until she died of old age on Friday, September 18, 1970 at Lamphun Hospital at the age of 78 years and 4 months old.
