Tha Satoi Community is on the east bank of the Ping River between Wat San Pa Khoi Market and Kawila Camp. Ban Tha Satoi is the name of a Tai Yai village on the west bank of the Salwin River, Myanmar. There is proof that Phya Kawila (1781-1815) brought people from Ban Tha Satoi to Chiang Mai twice, in 1799 and 1802. When these villagers settled in Chiang Mai they named their new village Tha Satio after the one they left. It is believed that they wanted to mark their identity apart from other groups due to the fact that at the time so many people from other places were gathered to stay in Chiang Mai and nearby areas for example, Ban Mueang Kai and Ban Mueang Sad.
The Chiang Mai people today call this community, Ban Tha Satoi with Wat Tha Satoi (Sri Soi Sai Mun) as the center of the community and it is believed to have been built at the same time the settlers came, and it was renovated many times after.
