On November 18, 1964, Her Royal Highness, The Kings Mother visited Chiang Mai University. Upon her arrival, at Salatham, around 2.30 p.m., the Princess Mother granted a Phor Por Ror Buddha image and her photograph to the university. Then Prof. Dr. Buaret Khamthong, the Vice President gave a report on the university. After that, the Princess Mother gave the following speech to the faculty members and students.
It is my pleasure to visit all of you at Chiang Mai University and thank you very much for your hospitality. I am fully supportive of the establishment of a regional university. This is an indication that the local people are interested in a university education. I hope this will bring benefit to all the people in the north. And students, I want you to remember always that this institution was established for your benefit and for the later generations of students. Whatever fields of study you are in, you must study seriously and be responsible for it. You should think carefully and use the knowledge gained to be the foundation for your future career.
Since this is the last semester for this academic year, I want to encourage you to carry on the regulations and principles as well as the traditions of the university. Being the firs class of students, you should maintain it and set an example for the later generations of students.
May I take this opportunity to ask the Buddhas Triple Gems to protect you and grant you the accomplishment you intend to achieve and the happiness in all aspects.
After the speech, the Vice President took the Princess Mother to tour the campus: the College 1 Building and the Social Science Building before her departure around 3.00 p.m. All the faculty members and students were waiting to see her depart.
The Princess Mother went farther to visit Nakhon Chiang Mai Hospital at the Surgery, Obsterology and Gynecology and Radiology sections respectively. HRH the Kings Mother also gave the hospital one Buddha image, her photograph and a radio.
