On February 19, 1971 at 9.30 a.m. Her Royal Highness Princess Galayani Vadhana Kromluang Narathiwat Ratchanakharin, the Kings sister visited Chiang Mai University at Salatham where the CMU president and the Vice President, Dean and Deputy Deans as well as senior instructors, heads of departments and student representatives came to receive Her Royal Highness.
As the Princess arrived at Salatham, Prof. Summa Thongkham presented her with a garland of flowers. Then the president of CMU introduced the Vice President and Deans. The Dean of each faculty introduced the instructors from his respective faculty. Prof. Dr. Okat Phalangkun reported briefly on the university activities. Asst. Prof. Dr. Yongyut Sathcawanit acting for the Vice President presented a Visitors Album for the Princess to affix her signature. After that, the president took Her Royal Highness to view the campus and all the faculties. At the Chemistry Laboratory Her Royal Highness was briefed by Asst. Prof Somphong Chuentrakun, acting for the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Dr. Udom Siyotha who gave some explanations. Then HRH Princess Galayani Vadhana returned to the Salatham and had some tea with some faculty members before leaving by helicopter to Bhuping Palace aroung 11.45 a.m.
It has been well known that HRH Princess Galayani Vadhana received a degree in chemistry in Switzerland and that she was a French teacher at Thammasart University. During her visit as CMU, she seemed interested in the university activities. It was very kind of her to visit CMU at this time. It brought delight and happiness to all the teachers, officials and students alike.
