It has become an annual activity that Chiang Mai Province and its officials, businessmen and well-to-do people as well as the general public come together to organize a New Years celebration and fun time winter fair. In 1964, it was held at the Sports Stadium of Chiang Mai Municipality. The fair ran from December 31 to January 6, 1964, seven days and seven nights altogether. In that year, Chiang Mai University participated by putting up a display of activities of the University.
