Wat Tapotharam (Wat Ram Poeng) is in the area of Tambon Suthep, Mueang District, Chiang Mai. The inscription of Wat Tapotharam, 1492 stated that Queen Atapadevi the consort of Phraya Yod Chiang Rai (1487-1496) asked for the kings permission to build the temple to be the center of belief for the people in the community. She offered part of the royal land and servants to the temple.
The principal chedi of this temple is different from those seen elsewhere. Its bell-shaped body part is round and is of 7-level tiers. The sanctuary contains arched bays with Buddha images placed inside similar to the one at Wat Phuak Hong.
The temple has become a major center for Dharma practices of Chiang Mai.
