Wat Chedi Liam or Wat Khu Kham is on the Kho Klang Road, Tambon Tha Wang Tan, Saraphi District, Chiang Mai. A legend was told that Phraya Mangrai (1296-1317) had the temple which was the first temple of Wiang Kum Kam built to store his consorts ashes. It was modeled after the Wat Ku Kut or Wat Chamadevi in Lamphun. However, the chedi seen today is different from its original at Wat Ku Kut due to the major renovation in 1908 led by Luang Yonakarnphichit (Hmong Pan Yoa Uppayokhin). The renovation did not make any changes to the chedis structure but newer details were added such as the stucco designs decorating the arch of the Buddha image bay and decorations on the chedis at the temples corners. A tiered umbrella was added to the chedi along with Buddha image bays at each side increasing the number of Buddha images from 60 to 64. The presiding Buddha images were replaced with the Burmese style ones with the 24-25 Centuries B.E. art. Moreover, a low wall was added surrounding the chedi with lion sculptures on the four corners of the wall.
